Tirana, Albania — Albania’s anti-corruption authorities have reportedly taken a significant step against a company tied to Jared Kushner’s controversial $4 billion luxury resort project, freezing bank accounts connected to the development as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to Albanian journalist Lindita Cela, prosecutors ordered the financial freeze on a landholding company allegedly linked to Kushner’s proposed luxury tourism development along Albania’s protected Adriatic coastline. The reported move comes amid rising public anger and nationwide protests over the project.
The action was reportedly carried out by Albania’s Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), which is investigating possible irregularities involving property titles connected to the development. Authorities are said to be examining whether land acquisitions tied to the project followed proper legal procedures.
The controversy surrounding the proposed luxury resort has intensified as thousands of Albanians voice opposition to what many see as the privatization of valuable national coastline for elite tourism. Demonstrators have increasingly rallied around the slogan “Albania Is Not for Sale,” arguing that the country’s natural and cultural heritage should not be handed over to powerful foreign investors.
The project has also drawn attention because of reported links to Qatari businessmen Moutaz and Ramez Al-Khayyat, whose company is allegedly tied to land involved in the development. Critics argue that the growing international business connections surrounding the deal raise serious concerns about transparency and accountability.
Supporters of the investigation say the financial freeze represents a major moment in Albania’s fight against corruption and sends a message that even billion-dollar developments should face scrutiny. Meanwhile, protests continue as citizens demand more transparency regarding the future of the country’s coastline.
As tensions grow, one message continues to echo through Albanian streets:
“Our Land Is Not For Sale.”
